A Fun and Functional New Kitchen

The inspiration for our client’s kitchen design and remodel was their favorite piece of wall art. This art, a photograph of cooking spices in an assortment of warm colors, inspired the remodel’s overall color palette. Details include:

  • New cabinetry including rich brown-stained cabinets
  • A salt-and-pepper-colored mosaic-tile backsplash with unique installation details
  • Complementing Quartz countertops with slab backsplash behind the range and curved island countertop with chiseled edge detail
  • Spicy Red Carmine – Blue Star as Range and Refrigerator Range and Refrigerator

The kitchen was re-configured, altering the existing layout to add counter space, create an open floor plan, and add efficient storage space. To achieve these results, the entry wall that confined the kitchen was removed. This opened the space creating room for a large curved island and breakfast counter for four. Below the new island countertop is a substantial amount of cabinets and drawers for storage of appliances, serve ware and
more.

Adjacent to the kitchen, a mudroom, laundry room, and awkward hallway with two small storage closets was re-designed. The washer and dryer were removed from the mudroom into a separate laundry room, creating space for cabinetry that enhances storage of the homeowner’s shoes, coats, and sports equipment. Their cramped hallway and small storage closets were removed and transformed into one large storage area and separate laundry room away from the flow of foot traffic. A French opening Barn door was installed with exposed wrought-iron rolling hardware, to conceal the laundry room from the kitchen. This door adds an architectural element to complement their woodsy cabin-like home.

Our clients are avid entertainers, and frequently use their large back deck, adjacent to their kitchen for parties. To enhance access while using their outdoor smoker, barbeque grill and, Green-Egg, a few additional enhancements were added to their kitchen design. Their kitchen sink was relocated to the exterior wall, and a sliding/pass through window was installed behind it.

To increase the rooms natural lighting while concealing the view of neighboring homes, a low horizontal window with narrow-reed glass was added atop the countertop on the backsplash. With the removal of a side window to create room for the new larger refrigerator, this creative solution allows for light transference with privacy.

High efficiency and high tech were also included in this remodel. Black plug mold was installed at various locations throughout the kitchen, hidden by light rail, or beneath countertop edges to conceal. Additionally, they use an Echo and Google Home Mini for music, recipes, and more while cooking, thus USB enabled outlets were installed throughout the space.

A fun and functional kitchen has been well loved by this couple since it’s completion, and they love how it has integrated into their family gatherings.
