This remodel transformed a detached studio above the garage into a serene spa-like retreat, designed to echo the beauty of its natural surroundings. With a luxurious soaking bath, thoughtful tile work, and radiant heated floors, the space offers both comfort and elegance. Overcoming construction challenges with inventive solutions, the team delivered a highly functional, energy-efficient design that celebrates simplicity, sustainability, and the homeowners’ love of nature. Now serving as both a personal oasis and a guest retreat, this space has become a favorite getaway for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Designing a Spa-Like Retreat

Drawing inspiration from the natural, treehouse-like surroundings, this studio remodel embraced durable porcelain tiles reminiscent of wood and stone, paired with a back-beveled quartz tub surround that brings the outdoors in. The design incorporated thoughtful touches like a durable and easy-to-clean tub, retro-inspired plumbing fixtures, and a recessed niche with contrasting tiles to create depth and dimension. Convenient shelving made from salvaged wood highlights the theme of reuse and sustainability, while decorative tile borders seamlessly tied the flooring and wall finishes together.

Comfort and luxury were equally prioritized with radiant electric heat, a remotely controlled heated floor, and carefully curated finishes that elevate the overall experience. Together, these design elements created a cohesive and calming spa oasis, perfect for relaxation after a long day.

Crafting with Care & Overcoming Challenges

The studio above the garage posed unique construction challenges, including steep hill access and limited pathways for delivering large materials such as the 100-gallon tub. The quartz tub’s intricate mitered design required specialized installation techniques, while the project demanded creative solutions for plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems. An underground tankless water system was installed to support the spa, along with additional shutoffs to give the homeowners greater control over water and energy use.

Sustainability played a major role in every decision, as the energy-conscious homeowners prioritized efficiency without sacrificing comfort. Despite the challenges, the remodel succeeded in creating a welcoming, functional space that beautifully balances luxury with environmental responsibility.
