Elevated Coastal Living in Edmonds
Expansive windows and modern finishes created a bright coastal retreat with stunning views and accessible design suited for guests of all abilities.
The homeowners, parents of two boys, wanted a primary suite on the main floor of their classic mid-century home to stay close to their kids while enjoying a quiet retreat. To achieve this, the design expanded the home’s footprint by enclosing a covered patio and reconfiguring the existing laundry room. The project also required rebuilding adjacent walls and updating the rear façade, including new windows across the back of the living and dining rooms. This reconfiguration created the space needed for a generous and functional master suite.

With the structure in place, the design team worked closely with the homeowners to integrate modern amenities while respecting the home’s 1955 architecture. The new bathroom was designed with universal design principles in mind, ensuring accessibility for years to come. Key features include a curbless, walk-in shower with wide entry, dual shower fixtures, and a clerestory window paired with a skylight to maximize natural light without compromising privacy.
The finished bathroom balances functionality with a stunning sense of style. Heated silvery gray wood-plank tiles run seamlessly through the room and shower for comfort and elegance. Custom walnut cabinetry with white quartz counters adds warmth, while blue tile accents provide a striking focal point. A wall of shimmering dimensional blue tile, paired with glossy boomerang-shaped accents around the mirrors, transforms the bathroom into a serene yet spectacular retreat.
