Elevated Coastal Living in Edmonds
Expansive windows and modern finishes created a bright coastal retreat with stunning views and accessible design suited for guests of all abilities.
This custom-built residence was our client’s childhood home, holding sentimental memories for her. Today, as a detail-oriented dentist and her husband, a retired sea captain, they wanted to put their own stamp on the house, making it suitable for their own unique lifestyle.
The main objective of the design was to increase Puget Sound views in every room possible. This entailed some areas receiving a major overhaul, such as the master suite, lesser updates to the kitchen and office, and a surprise remodel to the expansive wine cellar. All of this was done while preserving the home’s 1970s-era quirkiness.

In the master bedroom suite, the entire layout was reimagined—reclaiming space from the old closet on the exterior wall that once blocked the view of the Sound. Beams were integrated to preserve architectural character while supporting the new structure. The result is a breathtaking retreat where the couple can enjoy water views from every angle. With wall-to-wall bathroom windows, a curbless and glass-free shower and tub, and smart design elements for privacy, this open-concept suite delivers a luxurious yet comfortable living experience.
Beyond the bedroom, updates touched nearly every corner of the home. The kitchen retained its oak cabinetry but gained new countertops, backsplash, fixtures, and a combination gas/induction cooktop, while a wall opening created a more welcoming dining nook. A former sauna was transformed into a spacious shared office, complete with new cabinetry and sweeping views. During construction, the discovery of a water leak in the wine cellar led to essential fixes, including improved drainage, sump pumps, and water sensors—protecting the home’s structure and preserving the clients’ extensive wine collection.
