Elevated Coastal Living in Edmonds
Expansive windows and modern finishes created a bright coastal retreat with stunning views and accessible design suited for guests of all abilities.
What was once a cramped, outdated kitchen is now the heart of the home—open, inviting, and full of character. This remodel blends smart functionality with standout features, including a vibrant red range, expanded seating, and the signature flip-out window that makes entertaining effortless inside and out.

This rambler’s small kitchen was dysfunctional and out of touch with the client’s needs. She desired a larger footprint without an addition to stay within a realistic budget for her home’s size and neighborhood. The existing kitchen was “boxed-in” at the back of the house, with a narrow hallway entrance that caused congestion and cramped the cook. The living room fireplace dominated the space, further isolating the kitchen from other rooms. To solve this, the design team opened the kitchen to the dining room by removing the fireplace, expanding the interior floor space. They also widened the wall opening between the dining and living rooms, adding an archway that replicated the home’s original character while creating a more spacious, connected flow.
The new galley kitchen includes generous workspaces and enhanced storage, tailored to the homeowner’s needs. A kitchen peninsula was added for seating and conversation, and a vibrant red Viking range now provides both function and a pop of color, reflecting the client’s Stanford alumni pride. One of the most unique features is the “flip-out” window at the sink, which allows for seamless indoor-outdoor living without requiring an addition. When open, this creative solution extends entertaining space and connects guests inside and out. The countertop was finished flush to the window, doubling as a cocktail and serving surface for gatherings.
